The United Nations announced the appointment of Richard Goldstone as head of investigatory committee for Israel’s ‘war crimes’ in Gaza. Goldstone has much experience in field of commissions, him being a chief prosecutor for the UN International Criminal Tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda. Not surprisingly, though, the investigation will only focus on Palestinian victims.

Other members of the team include Christine Chinkin, Hina Jilani, and Desmond Travers. Although the latter two usually keep relatively silent, Chinkin opposed the war in Iraq. In itself, it is not a bad thing, however, here she claims wars can only be either defensive or approved by the UN Security Council, thus it is instantly clear what her take on Gaza conflict will be. By the way, current Security Council consists – among others – of China, Russia, Lybia and Uganda.

The global body says its former chief prosecutor for war crimes in Yugoslavia and Rwanda, Richard Goldstone, will head the probe ordered by the Human Rights Council in January.

According to the mandate, the investigation will focus only on Palestinian victims of the three-week war between Israel and Hamas earlier this year.

To be honest, words ‘Jew’ and ‘UN’ in same sentence give me a certain perspective on an issue – call it prejudice if you will, but in most cases, it is a correct one. Jewish appointee from the Useless Nations will definitely not be on the side of the Jewish State. Judging by the objectives already set for the commission, Israel will be blamed for all sins.
