Barack Obama’s administration declared today they would decline the invitation to join Durban 2 conference starting tomorrow:

Spokesman Robert Wood said Saturday that despite improvements from an earlier draft, the changes in the final text do not address US concerns of anti-Israel and anti-Western bias. The administration had lobbied hard for more revisions so that it could participate.

“It now seems certain these remaining concerns will not be addressed in the document to be adopted by the conference next week. Therefore, with regret, the United States will not join the review conference,” Wood said.

Australia and Holland joined the United States, with Australia’s FM Stephen Smith declaring:

“Regrettably, we cannot be confident that the [Durban] Review Conference will not again be used as a platform to air offensive views, including anti-Semitic views.”

Canada also asserted its representatives would not attend the conference for fear of “Israel-bashing”.

England, however, will send delegation to the conference, sitting at the same table with Iran’s Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
