Coat of Arms UNITED STATES REINSTATED its sanctions against Syria today, according to various news reports. US officials stated to reporters that the sanctions were renewed due to Syria’s failure to halt support for terror groups, such as Hamas and Hizb Allah:

US officials said on Friday that Barack Obama, the president, had signed the executive order the previous day.

"We continue to have serious concerns about Syria’s actions," said Robert Wood, the US state department spokesman.

"We need to see concrete steps from the Syrian government to move in another direction."

The sanctions block the exports of certain goods to Syria and freeze the assets of a number of individuals.

United States’ step is an unexpected one, particularly due to Barack Obama’s recent expression of will to normalize relations between the two parties. Yet, such step might prove skeptics wrong, particularly those in Israel, who asserted Israel is on collision course with current US administration, due to the nature of Benjamin Netanyahu’s right-wing government. The collision might still be upon us, yet, it might not be as grave as pessimists predict.
