THE MAIN NORWEGIAN union, LO, said Friday supported the idea of calling for a boycott of Israel if the Jewish state would not end its occupation of Palestinian territories.

LO believes that both Israelis and Palestinians have the right to live in peace and security. The Israeli government must bear responsibility for the fact that this is not the case, the union wrote in a statement released in the margin of its annual conference.

In its press release, LO requires the end of the illegal occupation, the respect of the 1967 borders, stopping of settlements, destruction of the separation wall, the establishment of a commission of inquiry of the UN in light of possible violations of international law.

My comment: Only Israel has been singled out for a boycott. The Norwegian Union has not called for a boycott of countries like Iran and Saudi Arabia. That’s strange.

Unlike in Israel, there is no freedom of speech, no freedom of religion, and women and men do not have equal civil rights in Iran and Saudi Arabia. The Norwegian union should rather have called its members to support Israel. Because Israel and Norway both have a strong and free labor movement.
