Secretly planning the next attack? West Bank settlers. According to security officials, settler extremists plan to battle Israeli government’s actions by fighting the Palestinian locals:

The Israeli defense establishment has learned that settler extremists in the West Bank intend to vandalize mosques to protest the destruction of outposts and official measures taken against fellow right-wing activists. The plans are part of the “price tag” policy, of exacting retribution for the arrest of certain settlers and the issuing of restraining orders against others.

UNDERREPORTED ASPECT OF the confrontation, is the Palestinian attacks against Jewish settlers. While the settlers’ tactic is despicable, the press rarely reports that the attacks are part of larger confrontation, particularly between the Jews and local Palestinian youths, spending their time stoning Jewish cars and throwing Molotov cocktails.

The Jewish settlement and Palestinian villages are heavily intermixed What’s worse is the defense establishment’s apparent inability to contain the violence and separate between the sides. The job is hard – with Palestinian and Jewish areas heavily intermixed. Yet, the violence has to be contained in the region; maybe the settlers forgot what it was like to drive through the area, having a 50-50 chance of being shot by Palestinian terrorists supported by local Palestinian population. De-escalation is necessary, as tough as such a decision is.
